He's laughing a lot more and starting to babble all the time with gaga's, booboo's and even some Dada's! Although he doesn't quite have meaning to the word yet, it's fun to pretend he's talking!
He's trying new foods and hasn't found one he doesn't like yet. After sampling a lot of different veggies he finally started trying some fruit this week. He loves eating and gets so mad when it's gone!
We went to the doctor this month, because I had a feeling Jonah had lost weight. We had noticed over the weeks that his baby chub he had a couple of months ago, was fading. His clothes that were nearly too small were fitting again. He was acting fine and still sleeping soundly so we didn't think too much of it. I figured he was just getting taller and thinning out. Then about 2 weeks ago, he became really fussy. He wasn't napping well, waking up all night to eat etc. It was like he was teething, but his bottom teeth are already in and the top gums aren't swollen yet. I called the lactation consultant, because I suspected my supply was low. She had me make an appointment with the pediatrician.
When we went in, I was thinking he was simply not gaining, or had possibly lost a few ounces. He only weighed 13lbs 9 oz. My heart sank. He was 15lbs 4 oz, 6 weeks prior. He lost nearly 2 pounds. I was starving my baby. No wonder he was fussy! What was supposed to be a nurse's visit and weight check, turned into the Doctor urgently coming in just a few minutes later, and us staying for more than an hour to do a weighted feeding, and leaving with a bag of formula samples. Now the plan was a bottle for every other feeding, and to come back in a few days to make sure he's gaining.
Well the formula has helped and he was back up to 14 lbs 4 days later. We are still nursing, but it almost never satisfies him, so he has a few ounces in a bottle afterwards. I have a feeling I'll be totally dried up in a matter of weeks, but we shall see. I would really like him to have breast milk through flu season, but can't make my body produce any more milk, and believe me, I have tried everything there is.
Besides the expense and offensive smelI, I really have no problem with formula. In a lot of ways it is easier even, but once we are done completely with nursing I know I will miss it. Luckily he takes formula just fine, other then a ton of spit up the first few times. It's helping him grow better than I could, so I am just grateful that it exsits. But more on that later!
At six months some things Jonah really likes are:
His jumperoo even though he doesn't really jump and it yet, he loves all of the toys. Sitting like a big boy at restaurants
Dancing, jumping, flying around, kisses on his belly, watching Avery play, books, toys, laying down to sleep in his crib (he gets so excited!), his feet, and being held everywhere.
Avery, Abby and Daddy playing with J!
Somethings he doesn't like are:
Seeing mommy walk by or away (separation anxiety is starting!),
napping anywhere but home, getting in the car seat, and when his food or bottle is gone.
He's a very laid-back baby, and now that he isn't starving, he only really cries when he is tired. I cannot believe he is already six months old!! It feels like just yesterday when he was born.
Here's some cute videos from this month!
